'Why are you doing this? For fun, laughter, peace and joy.' Growing up, we used to answer with, 'for fun, laughter, peace and joy' if we didn't have any particular reason for doing something. Recently, when I meditate and journal about why I want to:
or pretty much any goal I'm working towards, it ultimately leads back to the same reason: For fun, laughter, peace and joy.
So yes, ultimately, I do what I do for fun, laughter, peace, and joy. There's so much wisdom in the simple basics. Returning to these simple basics and doing them well is becoming a central theme in my life lately. No need to overcomplicate. No need to waver and feel overwhelmed. Just keep your eye on the simple basics. And focus on doing these few simple basics well. Reader, why do you do what you do? Why do you want what you want in your business or career? In your finances? In your health? Or anything important in your life? Is it for fun, laughter, peace and joy too? Or something else? I'm a big fan of journaling as a tool to access your subconscious thoughts. So I'd recommend writing these down and allowing your thoughts and feelings about them to come through. Keep it to the simple basics - then focus on doing them better than everyone else. This is how you'll stand out and differentiate yourself among the sea of everyone else doing too much, too soon. Have a great week ahead. Sharon P.S. Want me to help you get back to the simple basics and execute on them consistently in your career? Reader, It's begun. Retrenchment talks. Even though the company I work at has announced 'restructuring' after the acquisition, up to this point, this was only happening at the global and regional level, and the top folks in our country. Last week, the first trickle has landed in country. As someone in HR, conducting these conversations is the part of my job I hate most. Watching people cry. Seeing the shock, anger, and helplessness wash over their faces. Knowing that in an instant, their...
Reader, I have a confession. A decade ago, I got into a 6-figure business debt. I used to believe having more money solves all problems. Whenever there was something I didn't know how to or didn't want to deal with, I'd throw more money on it. When I would realized what I had done, I'd panic and stress. Hitting the 6-figure mark in debt was my wake-up call. The problem wasn't that I needed to become a financial expert. The problem was that I was stuck in survival mode, making decisions from...
