>$200k and 10 years later, the foundations to business building remain the same

Hello Reader,

After

  • >$200k - business debt from a cafe we closed down
  • >$20k - invested in business programs and coaches
  • > 10 years of side hustling

I've learned some expensive yet valuable lessons about building a business.

The principles of business building are simple and timeless:

  • Help your people
  • With one problem
  • They will pay money for

Ideally, this involves doing work you:

  • Love
  • Are good at
  • Can make money from

While it sounds simple, it's actually really hard to have all these converge at the right time and right place in your life.

There are times you'll have one but not the other.

Which means you have to make trade-offs.

The key is to know what matters enough to keep pushing through for, and what you're willing to walk away from.

Because while you can have anything you want, you may not get everything you want at the time you want it.

I see a lot of people who want the successful business, but aren't willing to do what it takes - including the old me.

Being clear about what truly matters to you, and what you're willing to do for it makes taking action and decision making easy.

You know what you're willing to trade off, and what to walk away from, no matter how fantastic an opportunity it seems to you.

This is true wisdom, freedom and power.

Today, I'm clear about what I want, what I'm willing and not willing to do for it.

And that brings me peace of mind, a lot more gratitude and way more joy.

Business building is a long term endeavour.

You must make it enjoyable to stay the course and persist through the tough times.

I didn't arrive to this place overnight.

It took >$200k and 10 years of life and business experience to get here.

Hello Reader, After taking a break from recording to review where I want to take this podcast, I’m back with a new episode focused on a topic I keep coming back to that's close to my heart - financial resilience. The personal finance space talks a lot about budgeting, saving, and investing, but I don’t see enough emphasis on the internal resilience that helps you stay steady when things change. With so much uncertainty right now—rising oil and petrol prices here in Singapore, and worries...

Reader, 2025 is over. Revenue targets. Client milestones. Growth numbers. Missed them all. Yes, that's me. For a while, I avoided looking at the data because I didn't want to face the disappointment.
