Reader, Work expands to fill the time you give it. That's Parkinson's Law. This past week, I tried giving myself 10 minutes to write my daily LinkedIn post in the mornings. It worked. It might be stressful to some, but it energized me, as I watched the timer counting down while I typed away. 10 minutes isn't a magic number - there's no research behind it. It's just what I could fit into an already early start at 4.30am after my morning routine. So now, my morning routine looks like this before I head out the door to get the kids to school and me to the office:
It enables me to start my day right and get the most important stuff done before most people are even up. It also reprogrammed my mind to believe I can get the work done in the time I allocate it. And if I really don't, I still have my lunch hour to complete it. But I don't like to even think this way - subconsciously I know it leads to procrastination if I tell myself I have more time later. I get into the exact process I use to make that 10 minutes work in this week's podcast. I'm curious - do you enjoy these short 10-minute podcasts or prefer the longer ones I used to do in the past? Hit reply and let me know! P.P.S. I love the poem, 'The Summer Day' by Mary Oliver - credits to her for my subject line! |

Reader, It's 9.17pm on Sunday as I'm writing this newsletter that I should have sent by 9am today. And I really didn't feel like doing this when it's almost my bedtime for an early morning start tomorrow at 4.45am. Then I remind myself - this effort is the work that's building my dream. One brick at a time. One email at a time. So here we are! Today's topic is about owning your story. Because your story has value. All the decisions you made, the actions you took, the ups and downs - they all...
Reader, Half of my week has been spent lying in bed, exhausted from what my doctor said was a particularly fierce, mutated flu virus that's been circulating. I hardly ever get sick. Whenever I do, I take it as a sign from the universe to slow down and rest because my default mode is to always be on the go. But it still didn't stop me from recording a podcast episode this week on the topic of showing up consistently! It might be my shortest episode yet (<10 minutes). Having the time to ponder...
Reader, I had a very big, pleasant surprise this week. A heavyweight from LinkedIn, Niharikaa Kaur Sodhi DM-ed me to come on my podcast! I reached out to her last year when I relaunched my podcast inviting her to be a guest. She accepted at first, then postponed it because it wasn’t a good time for her. I thought she probably changed her mind after realizing what a nobody I am. This is the kind of negative self-talk that goes on in my mind - it's a daily practice to neutralize it's impact on...
