Hello Reader, Prefer to listen instead? (This is the audio version of this week’s Career Design Notes.) There are many ways to build a career. You can:
Most people don’t choose. They default. I didn’t. I chose to build a business while keeping my job. Not because it’s easy. But because the alternatives were unacceptable. I didn’t want:
So I chose a path that gave me:
But this path is hard. There are days you’re exhausted behind wondering if you’re doing enough And this is where most women stop. Not because they can’t do it. But because they don’t have a strong enough reason to continue. For me, the vision is clear. I’m not just working. I’m designing a career that:
That clarity matters. Because when things get hard (and they will), you need something stronger than motivation. You need conviction. Over time, I’ve realised career design isn’t about doing more. Then life taught me otherwise. My husband and I shut down a business and were left with a six-figure debt. I returned to corporate life to recover. Shortly after, I was laid off while I was the sole provider for my family. That experience changed how I think about work forever. Not because jobs are bad. I've spent...

And the next day, the doubts came almost immediately. What if it doesn’t work? What were you thinking? You could’ve used that money for the kids’ university. — This is something people don’t talk about enough. Making decisions about money when you’re responsible for more than just yourself. — I didn’t make this decision...
